Vacation 2010 the 6th day (again posting about yesterday-thurs- the 12th)

Everyone up early to go watch gabby at the middle school volleyball try outs. Won't know if she makes the team untill next week ~ got my fingers crossed. She sure doesn't like all the picture taking.

From the school,went to the salon to get our hair done~yep, even me! Got the split ends removed, and hair thinned out. Feels so much better and lots lighter.

Gab got her's to look like "Bella" of "twilight" (check out the pictures in the FB hair cut album) with the purple high light.

Jaz got a lot cut off with a streak of purple. Jamie got a trim.

Layer in the afternoon, went to the elementary school which my youngest grand will be starting kindergarten (a 5 year old rite of passage!) Also ran into a old childhood friend of jamie's- "Faye" and her family.

Home for dinner and fell asleep in front of tv!

Vacation 2010 5th day Wed- 11th (yesterday)

Again, to tired to post last night~so here is yesterday's happenings

Man these all day shopping trips really tires a person out. I always like the window shopping at a few stores ~but almost every store!

Was something to watch my 12 year old granddaughter do her own bargain hunting and interacting with the sales people~and they weren't even looking over @ momma anytime during the sale! This girl knows just what she is looking for and wants. Even the youngest is a pro~will carry ALL her purchases all by her self. Would always pipe up with a "NOPE" when grandma offered to carry some of her bags!

Did do some bargain shopping at the local GoodWill down on August Rd and had lunch at "Sarah's Kitchen" this pace has good home made food~I and lots of other taxi drivers eat there. (I did a lot when driving a cab years ago)

Then spent most of the day at Heywood Mall looking around, never did make it to CherryDale Mall, but had fun doing a all girl's day!

My favorite store had to be the "Build A Bear" where both girls got new bears.

All in all we had a good day! Now this morning is off to watch oldest grand try out for school volley ball team

Vacation 2010 4th Day (YESTERDAY-the 10/Tues) 7am

Was really worn out yesterday, never got to post the day's activities , but did get loads of photos up on my FB page. UNFORTUALY was having trouble with the BlackBerry and couldn't get connected to FB or the blog (untill now~just got back up and running.)

Lets see, yesterday was one long day with the two granddaughters. Son in law Mike drove the three of us girls to downtown Greenville, dropping us off at the Children's Museum Only spent afew hours there before heading out to downtown (check the middle photo~we crossed that bridge! )

Falls Park

Falls Park on the Reedy River offers an oasis in the heart of downtown Greenville's historic West End. The park features a one-of-a-kind curved suspension walking bridge, scenic overlooks, outdoor amphitheaters, world-class works of public art, picnic areas, nature trails, garden areas, and of course, the beautiful Reedy River and its impressive series of waterfalls. It is a beloved destination to all, especially on sunny days, and features numerous events and festivals throughout the year.

After crossing the river bridge and playing in the water, went to do some mini golf. Did start raining so stayed till Jamie and Mike picked us up for dinner and the Drive Game celebrating Greenville's 179th Birthday.

Still have lots more photos on the camera....yep, grandma brought a backup! Can't get those up on FB untill I get back home to fla.

Spent all day watching the "Charmed" marathon with the two granddaughters.

Vacation 2010 day 2, Sunday 8pm

do some work on the computer, adding to this diary of my vacation with the girls.

Was up early to find oldest granddaughter up on her "puter" , watching TV and listening to her Ipod....(guess it is the new and latest way of "Multi tasking!").

Sent Video to getting Jazzy up this morning to YouTube, ....seems I am taking more "sleeping" photos of the oldest sleeping.

Went to the "Open House" for the dance studio both girls go to. Then out to "AppleBee's for dinner.

Oh , today Gabby "hot iron" my hair...photos of this are on my face book page (Vacation 2010 album). Turned out pretty nice. I like it....seems to make my hair feel and look much thiner...and lighter. Planning to get with a family friend who does hair, to see about having my thinned out and maybe layered sometime while I am here.

The youngest Grandgirl went walking the dog~Izzy.

DAY 1- 7:21AM traveling

You know, haven't flown on a plane since early 70's and didn't have to go through all the security I did this morning. Shoes came off, got patted down, and the only thing not allowed to go threw was the bottal of ice~which had partly melted~had to throw out the water, kept the small remaining ice.

Watch the flight before me board~they are organized by boarding by rows, with wheelchairs first and then Priority, then others.

So just waiting here to get boarded

Well getting ready to head out....or up to South Carolina and got this blog connected with my black berry so I can keep a running record of my "Good Times" with the grandkids. Heading out by Plane no less ( haven't flown in over 30 yrs...) Saturday morning and coming back the same way the following Saturday afternoon.

Looking forward to this! Can't wait to see the grandkids Got the camera ready, new memory card for the phone for the phone camera, maxed out the Ipod, got the bag packed, even got three different list going...know I will forget something! But ready to go!

*note to daughter-they are turning out to be very well rounded , well adjusted people.

~Offer to be a helping hand, doing household chores, changing that diaper.
*note-living so far away in another state can make this one a bit hard if just impossible.

~Don't worry, you are wonderful parents!
note-you have learned from the best, me! Don't get me wrong, I know I wasn't the greatest at times but then , so what...I know I had a great role model in my own mom and you are using what you were given and ran with it, making it your own and so much better.

~Your children are wonderful...actually they are the greatest...you have given me the one gife any mother would hope to recieve from their child, GRANDCHILDREN!
*note-the two are so much like you and yet so different but unique in themselves

~I am ALWAYS here if you need me.
*note-thou I may live so far away, I may not be there physically there, I am mentally, and emotionally there. Thanks goodness for cells phones , email, and even the social networks like myspace and Face Book to keep in touch.

~Insecure? Never, you just don't show it , if you are...the books can't beat the actual hands on , which you have mastered

~I promise to FOLLOW Your Rules!
*note- when I am physically there, I do believe I am able to do this...This is one thing I Highly Recommend that all parents who are grandparents do-abide by your grandchild's parents wishes.

~I support your decisions
*note-again , same goes as what was said with the above note

~THANK YOU for allowing me to be part of the childrens lifes, how ever, it may be.
I know that other grandparents can be "disowned" and not allowed access to these children...so I am VERY blessed to know I can and do have that privilege.

So those are my thoughts, and now that I am not the parent , but looking at how my parenting has been INPROVED through you with your parenting to your children is a blessing and as I always say: What goes around , comes around-....

Back from the Vacation -summer of 2009

Really had a great time with the family this year. Took the greyhound from here in Sarasota, Fla. which was an adventure in itself! Seems the bus was late at every stop. Thank goodness there were long layovers at points of changing buses. For example, there was to be a 3.5 hour layover in Atlanta, Ga. but only had to wait less than 2 hours.

I even was able to see the driver's authority in action...believe it or not, they can have you kicked off the bus and he did this to a passenger who just wouldn't shut up and let it go, had to have the last word. So the person was left at the Pilot Gas Station somewhere between the Fla. and Ga. line.

Got into Greenville, SC about half hour late. The family knew where I was with the help of text messaging. So it was a blow by blow commentary from me to where my location was. Even the moment we pulled into the bus terminal.

I step off the bus into the waiting arms of my two granddaughters. Shockingly the oldest was as tall as me, eye to eye. For a ten year old standing toe to toe with her 5 foot tall grannie was a real eye-opener. Am I getting older, or shrinking? Maybe a bit of both! Aways have been the shortest in the family. Still taller than the youngest granddaughter , which by the way she is growing and my shrinking I bet next year she will be almost as tall as I am.

Spent those first few days just relaxing and enjoying each other's company. By the middle of the week, everyone was ready to head back down to Fla. The girls were looking forward to going swimming in the ocean, and my daughter I do believe was planning her shopping spree!

The trip down to Fla was long and tiring, from my son-in-law's point of view. He drove the whole way down and pulling a small trailer loaded to the brim with furniture for me (all donated or given by my daughter's friends at work-which I give you all a Gr8 BIG THANK-U). The trip's only issue was just inside the Fla line the lights on the truck went out, blew a fuse. Couldn't figure just which one. Found out later , this truck actually has a passenger side fuse box. Daughter ended up paying for this info when she went to a dealer ship when we finally made it into town.

We really didn't have any layed down plans of what we were going to do while the family was visiting here in Sarasota. Spent the first day at LIDO BEACH
with another day being a full day excursion at St. Armand's Circle just visiting the many, many shops. A true shopaholics dream come true!

Back at the apartment where grandma just moved in and the new furniture is welcomed, the grands set their eyes on getting into the apartment complex pool. Actually spent two days just laying around watching the youngest grand try her hand at doggie paddle all by herself, which after much coaching she was out there in the middle of the pool enjoying the fun.

Also spent a good portion of a day at the local Mote Aquarium, and found alot of souvenirs.

All in all the vacation was better than the last. The family was able to see some of what I like this place so much. And I still want a HOUSE BOAT in the Sarasota Bay, near Marina Jacks and the O'Leary where we had dinner and enjoyed the music just before the storm rolled in!

And so, another vacation has come and gone. This one I actually am getting paid for as the last year I was still part time. Now to plan another for next year. Hoping the family comes down and spends more time and $ which the local economic woudn't mind. There is still lots more to see and places to go! So till next year...

Looking forward to Vacation

Been working toward this all year and soon will be taking a week off to go up to SC to visit family and my two granddaughters.

Still not sure just how I will be getting up to Greenville, Greyhound or rental car...maybe a plane. Haven"t flown in decades, not sure if I want to anyway. The bus will take about 17-22 hours, a rental will get me there in half the time. Like always, money is the issue. Plus I won't know if I will be brought back by the family or not until I get there.

The girls have been growing like wildfire, been keeping up by way of my daughter's myspace photos. The oldest just graduated from elementary school and going into the next level of of her education-middle school (or Junior high, what is is called where and when I was in that grade level)

The youngest I know will be looking me in the eye at eye level soon, and she isn't even in kindergarten. Her thing now is dancing, a balerina

So let the count down begin, first of Aug 09 is the start of vacation...

Please don't be affended by what I am about to write, but this was sooo funny I just had to share. I am sure lots of you have had this happen in your family as well.

Got a Text Message from daughter the other day and had to sit down for fear of falling off my feet from laughing so hard.Here is what the tx said

"Oh yea, Forgot to tell you (granddaughter's name withheld) new thing. I was tickling her last night and she told me that I hit her horny spot!!"

Now the girl is 10 years oldAsked my daughter if granddaughter knew what she was talking about, OH YEA is my daughter's come back.

Oh how they grow up sooo fast. Did have to mention the one liner my mother always told me and will always pass onto my "grown" kids "YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS OF YOUROWN"

Also reminds me of the old Art Linkleter (sp?) show about kids saying the darnest things.Any one have some funny thing about grands out there?!

So what did you call your grandparents? Grandma was both mothers of my parents, Grandpa was dad's father. Didn't have the opportunity to know my mother's dad. And there was Grandma Vercie, actually my Great Grandma on dad's side.

While the grandkids were younger, I was called GAMMA, but am now hearing Grandma.

Roots of Grandparenting

Everyone has a maximum of four genetic grandparents, eight genetic great-grandparents, sixteen genetic great-great-grandparents, etc Now just how far back can you go in your family

On my father's line SARGENT, I am able to go back to the 10-th Generation with William and Sara (LEA) Sargent. Most of the other lines go as far back as 5 to 8 generation, only due to a brick wall I have encountered or the fact they have come from another country...which I haven't had to chance to look into yet.

New Beginning

What is JUST BEING GRANDMA , ask your own grandkids ,or thoses of others you might know. They will come up with lots of different thoughts so I would like to just keep tabs on it all.

I got the Title just because my own granddaughter once said those very words after witness me doing or saying something I just can't recall now. So , out of the mouths of babes came the words "Just Being Grandma"
